some notorious electronic music talents have started their careers as percussionists. and so did yaya, but his tale is different to all the rest. his new release for desolat takes a unique, upbeat approach to 4/4 beats: combining heartfelt benin influences - samples from dialogue and traditional ballads - with the stretched-out tension and release of balearic and the bubbling pops and stutters of tech house, plus the occasional kickback to a commodore64 high score melody. raised in turin, italy, rhythm was his lifeblood for yassin legali, also known as yaya, from an early age. his father was the lead vocalist and percussionist for mbamina, a band consisting of musicians from benin, zaire, italy and cameroon. mbamina released eight albums, collaborated with artists like manu dibango and salif keita, were sponsored by paco rabanne and played all over africa, including a show for the presidents of senegal and france. their final show was with james brown in paris in 1985 - the year yaya was born. well-versed in his fathers legacy, yaya grew up playing drums and djembe, and at the age of 15, began performing as a percussionist in turin clubs. just one year later, he was already djing, playing funk, soul, afrobeat, house and garage. manu dibango and fela kuti found a spot in his crate next to records by masters at work and dimitri from paris: contrasts of rhythm and structure that pervade his music to this very day.

played by efdemin, ellen allien, karotte , lawrence, luciano, len faki, monika kruse, raresh, shinedoe... hailing from the southeast asian jungle, globalization, diaspora, and the unchecked native baboon explosion have all seriously endangered patuá, so we are afraid that poor patuá has very few brothers and sisters left in this world. lucky for you, as the vakant freak out bus has transversed the planet so many times now, we have indeed found (gasp) patuá and present patuá here for your delight and revelry. all it took to lure patuá onto the bus was some animal crackers and a 1989 game boy. truly momentous, yes we feel like noah. once onboard we immediately put patuá to work and this double a-side is the result. apparently house is big everywhere. smooth and warm, a-side macaista reaches out to the remaining patuá of this world and says, i am here, do not fret. if patuá reaches out with macaista, aa-side chapado is the reach around. much like his newfound masters, patuá is quite cheeky. thick and spacey chapado is the patuá mating call to all the remaining tribe members earthbound and beyond!

next up from the very eclectic rong music is a remix ep from west indian girl.west indian girl is a rock band from los angeles. the bands name comes from a type of lsd that was popular in the early 60s. the initials are also a reference to james and tens previous band, wig scotty coats and wes the mes have fifty years of djing and remixing experience between them but their first release togetheruas wes coatsuis just coming out this month as the first california release on the newly merged dfa and rong music. patterns form hail from texas formed by sammy ragland & chris ornelas in 2000 making a cross between shoegaze trip hop & electronic moving to la in 2004 and forming a full band and have been playing live across the us ever since.

ben macklin & jay p have a string of productions behind them that spans the best part of the last two decades. ben has carved asuccessful solo career with releases on free2air and azuli, and as one half of sucker djs on toolroom and hed kandi. on top of this,he has remixed fedde le grand, space cowboy and wally lopez to name but a few. jay p is the alter ego of vern (of stretch & vernfame), projects include reflekt and superbass and his own mono-type records imprint. on top of this, he has written five tracks for the last kylie album, and has two on the brand new little boots album.joy malcolm needs little introduction: she delivered her excellent vocal performances throughout incognitos most successful album everone hundred degrees and risin, recorded songs with moby for his 2007 go the very best album release and also toured with him aswell as with the basement jaxx.

disco devil number 8 sees the return of the man from vienna, mikeburns, sporting 2 more twisted disco edits of the very special kind. galaktattakk on the a side, as the title already suggests is an explosive funky space disco monster, laden with heavy bass, far out synth sounds and an ethereal choir that literally besieges any dance floor. the cheerful and more esoteric theme of the b side track, earth blues disco meditation, makes it feel like the long awaited return home to this blue planet of ours, after an extensive cosmic journey.
